Vic; Woman charged over syringe attack

A Melbourne woman will appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow charged withstabbing a driver with a syringe during an alleged attempt to hijack a car.

The woman was arrested today after a driver said she was attacked in her car in GilbertRoad, Preston, at 2.25pm (AEST).

A police spokesman says the victim says she was approached by a woman who demandedshe hand over her car.

When the woman refused, she was slapped and stabbed with a syringe.

Police arrested a woman and a man at a nearby house a short time after the incident.

A police spokesman says the woman was charged with a number of offences, includingattempted armed robbery and intentionally causing serious injury.

She was remanded in custody to appear in Melbourne Magistrates Court tomorrow.

Police say the man was not charged over the alleged attack, but he was wanted overoutstanding warrants and will appear in court tomorrow on that basis.
