Dominica is among 20 countries from across the world which were barred from voting in the United Nations General Assembly this year because they have fallen too far behind in their dues, reports the The Chronicle of Dominica (Feb. 8, 2002). Dominica first became a member of the UN General Assembly on December 18, 1978. Government officials have refuted the claim. Efforts by The Chronicle to get the amount owned by Dominica from the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Roseau and the Dominica Mission in New York proved futile. The only other Caribbean Island on the list is Haiti, which joined the UN on October 24, 1945. Details: E-mail: thechronicle@cwdom.dm
