NEW YORK Stocks failed to move much today as investors beganassessing the first big wave of first-quarter earnings reports andwhat they signal for the rest of 2001.
Generally positive results from two of the nation's largest banksfailed to cheer investors. Technology stocks fell slightly amidprofit-taking and several investment firm's downgrades.
Trading was cautious while Wall Street waited to see whetherearnings in general would be weaker than expected-a possibleindication that an economic turnaround might be delayed.
